Akram Khan, MD

Principal Investigator

Dr. Khan is an associate professor in the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. He is board certified in critical care, pulmonary medicine, and sleep medicine.


Jose Pena, MD

Research Program Manager

Jose, a graduate from Universidad de Los Andes, Merida, Venezuela, is an aspiring candidate for an internal residency program. Before pursuing medicine, he was a professional baseball player in his home country. In addition to playing baseball, he remains active by participating in a soccer league and snowboarding in the winter months. He is also a food enthusiast with his specialty being Italian cuisine.


Genesis Briceno, MD

TI Sr Clinical Research Assistant

Genesis is a graduate from Universidad de Los Andes, Merida, Venezuela. She has been a part of the PRISM team since 2021 and aspires to be in a medical residency program. She is an avid marathon runner and enjoys hiking, camping, paddleboarding, and exploring. Genesis also loves discovering new coffee shops and bakeries around Portland.


Edvinas Pocius, BS

Research Project Coordinator

Edvinas has been a valued team member of the PRISM team since 2022. He graduated from Washington State University, Vancouver and is exploring interdisciplinary graduate degree opportunities. Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and attending to her wishes with enthusiasm.


Emily Tribbett, BS

TI Sr Clinical Research Assistant

Emily graduated from Portland State University in 2010 and joined the PRISM team in 2024. She enjoys a wide range of hobbies, including hiking, gardening, bird-watching, and traveling. A passionate reader, Emily especially loves psychological thrillers. Outside of work, she cherishes spending time with her husband and two children.

Riya Mathew

Non-OHSU Student Worker

Riya joined the PRISM Team in May 2024 and is currently attending the University of Portland ('27) pursuing a major in Cell, Molecular, and Biomedical Science with minors in Chemistry and Neuroscience Studies. When she's not engaging in all things science, Riya loves to participate in performing arts extracurriculars such as theatre (acting and behind the scenes work) and choir.
